Over the past 10 years while working in the natural health industry she had gained knowledge of a range of testing including DNA profile analysis, salivary hormones and microbiome (stool) tests. Rebecca is very passionate about living life and making healthy decisions. She enjoys working with the local community and runs regular workshops at the clinic and other venues providing up to date information and education to assist others in having a good understanding of natural therapies and how to make the best diet and lifestyle choices for individuals and their families.

Associate Professor Joanne Lind, Western Sydney University

Associate Professor Lind is Head of the Molecular Biology and Genetics Unit within the School of Medicine, Western Sydney University. During her career she has received a number of awards that have recognised her research and teaching excellence. The test for coeliac disease susceptibility is the most commonly ordered genetic test in Australia. This presentation will help you understand what a positive gene test for coeliac disease means. It will also explore the scientific evidence that underpins how genetic variants do, or do not, help you plan your diet. The latest research findings in coeliac disease and nutrigenomics will also be discussed.

Michelle works in several capacities as a dietitian – general clinical work in a large GP practice, consultant at Coeliac WA (including dietetic clinics) and teaching in Faculty of Health Sciences at Curtin University.  She has coeliac disease herself, and is the mother of two tween daughters with coeliac disease.

Coeliac Disease in Children: Whats New
Dr Ajay Sharma, Paediatric Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist

Coeliac disease is an immune-mediated enteropathy caused by a permanent sensitivity to gluten in genetically susceptible individuals. It occurs in children and adolescents with gastrointestinal symptoms, dermatitis herpetiformis, dental enamel defects, osteoporosis, short stature, delayed puberty and persistent iron deficiency anemia and in asymptomatic individuals with type 1 diabetes, Down syndrome, Turner syndrome, Williams syndrome, selective immunoglobulin (Ig)A deficiency and first degree relatives of individuals with coeliac disease. Discussion will be around indications for testing, the value of serological tests, human leukocyte antigen (HLA) typing and histopathology and the treatment and monitoring of children with coeliac disease.
